How can I minimize the noise of exercising at home?

I just moved into my new apartment and I do not want to be a nuisance to my new neighbors. I live on the third floor and my neighbors live below me. I would like to start exercising in the morning (around 5:00 am For about 45 minutes) and some nights (around 9 or 10:00 pm) I especially step aerobics. I have hardwood floors. What can I do to minimize noise, so do not bother them?

I would stop by and have a chat with them. Just let them know that you work at certain times and might be a little harder than normal. Thus can not get angry. I also want to try a yoga mat for some extra pillows.
